When she slept, it could take 15-20 hours for her to wake up, and when she did, she woke up with a form of depression that weakened her.

“I’ve had a fascination with sleeping since I was a child,” says Delanie Weyer. Maybe you think this is common because many of us would like to sleep a little longer than we usually do.

But Delanie’s fatigue is different and very strange. He seems to have a silent illness. When he was 18, he traveled on a scholarship. Like all teenagers, she enjoyed and made the most of her trip, but when she got home, she was exhausted and slept for 20 hours straight.

Her mother thought she was pretending, but the young woman could barely move, and it was hard for her to get up to go to the bathroom, and her appetite was gone. Thus, her family had begun to worry.

“I did what any mother would have done, I forced her to get up and she was very irritated; her eyes were white. I asked her if she was lying, if she wasn’t just lazy or if she was taking any kind of drugs “, says Jean Weyer, the girl’s mother.

After this episode, Delanie suffered more from drowsiness. When she slept, it could take 15-20 hours for her to wake up, and when she did, she woke up with a form of depression that weakened her.

When she went to the doctor, she was diagnosed with Kleine-Levin syndrome, also known as “Sleeping Beauty Syndrome”. Produces cyclic alternations of behavior. The causes are still unknown, and Delanie’s case has alerted other parents.
