A young woman whose father died a month before she graduated received a more unusual gift. She decided to tell the story on the internet.
“The last few years have been an ordeal. My father was ill and I had to take care of him, even though I had a difficult college schedule. I didn’t have time for anything, for friends, for extracurricular activities, for anything.
Although he was ill, my father tried not to be a burden. Today was the day I officially finished college, the day I got my bachelor’s degree. Dad’s not here anymore. Today I received a letter from him congratulating me.
In the envelope was a note with an e-mail address and a password. I found it very strange.
I logged in and saw that there were thousands of emails from my father. All from my father. Lots of emails with different titles. Open when you’re going through an awkward moment or Open when you’re arguing with your mom. Each email had a small text and a video attached.
I opened the e-mail I was supposed to read on graduation day. I burst into tears. I didn’t think I would ever hear his voice again, listen to his advice.
I realized he recorded the video the day he found out how long he had to live because I remember wearing his favorite T-shirt. I had forgotten what he looked like before he started chemotherapy.
Dad’s gift is the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received. Infinite time with my father. He’s with me forever now. I love him and I miss him.
Here are some e-mail titles he left me
