Meet Evan Fasciano, a 5-year-old boy from Connecticut. He suffers from an extremely rare disease. He was born with harlequin ichthyosis or fetal ichthyosis, as it is known in medical terms. This condition causes his skin to grow tens of times faster than that of a normal child and this puts him in mortal danger of infection.

This disease has various forms and phases, and Evan suffers from the most serious form of the disease. Because of this, he has to take a bath at least twice a day to avoid any possible infection. Every day, the parents must clean his skin and apply a special cream on the entire surface of his body.

Another danger is dehydration or sunburn. Evan should avoid sunlight at all costs and consume plenty of fluids.

Because of this, Dede Fasciano, Evan’s mother, had to give up her job to take care of her son who needs special attention.

People who find out his story would think that Evan is a depressed child, always sad and ashamed of his physical appearance, but the reality is different.

The boy is very cheerful, sociable and has a lot of friends to play with and spend his free time.
