It’s hard to understand why would someone abandon a companion. Even if there are circumstances when you don’t have any other options left, why would you leave a warm soul in the freezing cold, in the middle of nowhere? The following story shows a beautiful and sweet Collie, waiting outside in the snow to be picked up by her family which doesn’t seem to show up.
Some people attempted to reach her, but she would run away and return to the same spot.
Janine Guido is the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue, a non-profit center that has the mission to save as many abandoned and neglected dogs. She was contacted by the residents of Pennsylvania town in regards to the Collie’s situation. Janine drove to that place, and it made her heartbreak as she observed the pain the doggo was going through. Carla, named by Janine, was running away as soon the rescuer was approaching.
Even traits wouldn’t make Carla change her mind. “On the first and second day I went out I was able to hand-feed her. However, if I went to loop her with the leash she would back up.”, Janine told in an interview for The Dodo.
The rescuer made a sad photo with Carla waiting in that place and posted it on the official page of the center she was in charge of.
Janine would come every day to check on the abandoned doggo, not even thinking about leaving her behind. She disappeared at some point, and Janine was devastated, thinking about the freezing temperatures Carla was probably enduring.
Fortunately, she was contacted by someone who informed her about the last spot where Carla was seen, namely under a porch, not far from there. Tried to get her again but the dog wouldn’t cooperate. “I was able to have her follow me on to a porch. And two other women blocked both entrances, so she could not run away.

I leashed her and the rest is history.” She was taken to a vet, they found out that Carla was about 10 years old and underweight. The patient rescuer did such a good job and placed her into a warm and welcoming foster home.
Carla has now a safe home and changed, due to her new furry friends that she made there.
Let’s have a moment and give Janine Guido a big round of applause for her devotion.
