The flight attendant noticed a young woman who seemed to need help – the police were called urgently to the destination airport
Trafficking in human beings is a very big problem nowadays, this illegal practice becoming more and more widespread all over the world. Poor people who become targets are often helpless people, without a family, and looking for a better and easier life. Traffickers lure them into telling them they can live a better life, lying to them that they will live luxurious and carefree lives. According to victims who have gone through such experiences, at first, it may seem that everything is fine, but along the way, everything comes to light and the victims realize that they have been fooled.
A flight attendant observed two passengers boarding the ship, a 45-year-old man accompanied by a young teenager. What caught the woman’s attention was the attitude of the teenager, she seemed very sad, sloppy and seemed to avoid eye contact. While the man was very well dressed, he spoke instead of the girl and seemed to be very possessive. She investigated things more closely, tried to talk to the girl, but each time the man rushed to answer for her.
Seeing that things were not right, she went to the toilet and left a message for the young woman and after she went out she made a subtle gesture that made it clear to the teenager that she had to go to the toilet. The girl complied and found the message and told Sheila Frederick that she was in danger and that she was asking her to help her using the window in the toilet. After seeing the message, Sheila notified the pilots and the police, who arrived at the airport and waited to check on the dubious man who was accompanying the teenager. Look at what Sheila said about her whole experience:
“She was accompanied by an older man, who would not let her speak at all. He answered all my questions. The man was very well dressed, while the girl looked miserable, her hair was greasy and disheveled. Something in my mind was telling me that something was wrong with her. After looking more closely, I realized that the little girl was going through a real hell. So I decided to take action, without thinking too much.”
Due to her good instinct and rapid decision, the young woman was saved and the man who was holding her hostage, mentally, was arrested. She followed the signs that such people display when they are in danger: the girl was showing signs of physical injuries and abuse, she was avoiding eye contact and she was very malnourished. Those who are enrolled in such illegal occupations are masters in the art of manipulation and manage to convince their victims very quickly with fairytale-like scenarios, leading them to believe that their lives will suddenly change for in better after some effort is done. But after they bite the bait, sometimes is too late to realize that everything was a lie. Sheila deserves congratulations for her actions and we urge you to speak up if you see similar cases!
