Jesse Tendayi is 54 years old and works in the cafeteria of the children’s hospital in Oak-Lown, Illinois. Every day she sees sick children struggling with serious illnesses, but children love her because she is always nice to them and sometimes even gives them presents.
In fact, every Christmas, since 2009, this woman spends her savings to buy toys. On the occasion of the first Christmas she bought them 100 toys, and every year she increases the number. Her family doesn’t have much money, She and her husband moved from Zimbabwe to Chicago 19 years ago, and a year later she started working at the hospital. She opened a savings account and transferred money for toys every month!
Here is what she says: “It’s not about wealth. It’s not about money. I just have to do my best to see the children happy. ” Although she has no children of her own, she says she loves all the children in the world: “I have to do everything possible to make all these children happy.”
The children, the parents, and all the doctors, love this pretty woman and appreciate all the little things she does. However, no one suspected that she had to work so hard just to raise money for children’s toys.
Jesse was determined to raise $ 5,000 to buy 1,300 toys for the children in the hospital, and she did! On December 12, last year she brought all the toys to the hospital and everyone’s faces fell off! But she just smiled and told each child to choose the toy she liked.
“Why am I doing this?” God put that in my heart. I used to watch TV and see children who needed help. So I told myself that I will not have peace while there are children in my country who are suffering! So I started raising money to help these kids. ”
She understands that toys cannot cure diseases, but she says that they are something that can make them happy, she says that seeing happy children is the best gift: “I am happy, I am happy when I see happy children. God has put this in my heart, and I will do well and love the children for the rest of my life. ”
