The mayor wants to pay people to live in these houses, what’s the reason?

It is an abandoned town called Garnet, in an old part of Granite County, Montana, USA. The US government is now looking for volunteers to spend the summer living in this place, during which time they should take care of the houses, but also act as guides to the visitors. Volunteers would receive furnished rooms, money for food, and instead expect visitors to give information about that place to visitors, to help with events. Volunteers would have a schedule from 9 to 5, and the rest of the day could do whatever they wanted.

But most volunteers only last a month here. Some people think this is because of the ghosts that are said to roam the empty streets and buildings. For example, it is known about the Wells Hotel building that it emits very strange sounds, resembling the sound of footsteps or someone screaming, and some volunteers said that sometimes they hear people laughing, but also music, from the now empty house that had been a pub, “Kelly’s Saloon.”
