Chinese art has always been famous for its interest and attention to detail. This can be seen especially in the art of wood carving. Zheng Chunhui is one of the most talented people in this field. He recently entered the Book of Records for a magnificent work.

The huge wooden sculpture above is titled “Along the River during the Qingmin Festival.” The work was created after a painting on canvas of the same title, made by Chinese artist Zhang Zeduan, which is 12 meters long and 3 meters high.

Inside we can see an entire village, 550 people, each with his life and occupation. Everything is sculpted down to the smallest detail: balconies, houses, trees, and even the ripples of the river…

Zheng’s work generally speaks of events that took place in the seventeenth century during the reign of the Song Dynasty.

The artist spent no more and no less than 4 years of his life to make this other world come to life.

The general theme of the work is Qingming, the national holiday to honor the dead. This is the day when people from all over the country light candles and put flowers on the graves of their ancestors.
