Before dinner, Maria Chelysheva’s father went down to the basement of the house, he just wanted to get some potatoes, but he never came back. When she saw this, his wife went after him to see what had happened, but she did not return. Eventually, Maria’s brother came down to check on his parents, but he didn’t go back upstairs either.

Grandma was the one who noticed that something was wrong and called a neighbor, but before he got to their house, the woman also went down. Unfortunately, they died one after another.

Maria was the last to enter the cellar, and when she saw them all lying on the ground, she desperately alerted the authorities. They found that all four members of the family had died from a gas emitted by the potatoes in the cellar that had begun to rot.

It is known that potatoes contain glycoalkaloids, it has a strong toxic action, even if it exists in small quantities. At the same time, in the sprouted potato tubers there is also chaconine, another glycoalkaloid. It seems that as the potatoes rot, the concentration of toxic substances increases being spread outside as a lethal gas that can kill even after a few inhalations. The same happened with the Chelysheva family.

According to the Daily Mail, this shocking case took place in 2013, and the little girl, who was left without parents, brother, and grandmother, was taken into the care of relatives.
