“I am just proud to have you. I’m sorry I didn’t protect you more.” These are the shocking words of a father who lost his four-year-old daughter.

The child, named Jessica Whelan, was diagnosed with cancer at an early age, and her frail body could not cope with the disease. When the little girl passed away, her father, Andy Whelan, reacted and sent an extremely emotional message on one of the social networks.

“It was an honor to have you and I am proud to have been your father over the years. I’m not ready to let you go, my princess, because I wish I could hear, at least once, that daddy you just said so beautifully. I wish I could prepare for our next trip, not your funeral. I would have liked, my dear, to listen to your favorite songs together, not to add them alone to a playlist to write, goodbye in the end.
I am sorry that I could not protect you more from this world and that I could not offer you more in this short life that you have lived. I’m sorry you bothered and I was helpless. My tears are flowing as I write to you now, but I want to ask you something, my dear Jessica. In the nights that will follow, when you will be away, and I will sleep in your room, please come and give me another hug… ”
The story made thousands of people cry and managed to gather from internet users over 57,000 reactions and 18,500 distributions on social networks.
