A Chinese man has been arrested after selling his 18-day-old daughter online.
The man, who lived in Tong’un, Fujian Province, used social media to sell his daughter for £ 2,500. What did he want to do with the money? No, he didn’t want to save someone from death or bring peace to the world, he just wanted to buy an Apple iPhone and a motorcycle, according to Chinese jurors.
The man was identified under the pseudonym “A Duan” and found a buyer for his daughter through the social network QQ, after spending days chatting. The two parents were only 19 when the child was conceived “unintentionally”, according to Metro, so they decided to sell him when they started having financial problems.
The girl’s mother, known to the public under the pseudonym “Xiao Mei”, apparently had several part-time jobs, but in the end, she agreed with her partner who came up with the idea of selling the child. Here is what she told the police: “I was adopted too. And many people in my hometown send their children to other people. I really didn’t know it was illegal. ”
The name of the buyer was not made public, but local newspapers revealed that he had bought the child for his sister. The child will stay there until the authorities decide what is best for her.
Duan, the father, will spend three years in prison for his deed, while the mother received two and a half years with suspension, according to The Epoch Times.
