This is the story of a mother who had to make the decision of her life when she gave birth to her son.
It all started well, Karis Bugal got pregnant and found out she was going to give birth to a baby boy. She and her husband prepared the child’s room and went to regular checkups to make sure the pregnancy was progressing normally.
It was set the date when the young mother would give birth by cesarean section, a relatively easy operation, but everything would turn into a nightmare.
When she arrived at the hospital, the woman was not feeling well, and after the tests, the doctors discovered that the future mother was suffering from an amniotic fluid embolism, an extremely serious complication, and very rarely. This condition is found only in one birth out of 100,000.
What exactly does this condition mean?
The fluids that are around the baby, inside the placenta, infiltrate into the mother’s blood and have the effect of stopping all the mother’s internal organs.
In most cases, when this complication occurs, it ends in the death of the mother. The expectant mother thought that the best decision for her son was to give birth by cesarean section.
Dr. Gerow, who dealt with the woman’s case, said: “If you had chosen to give birth to a woman with spinal anesthesia, there was a very good chance that before we could mount a spinal tube, the baby would die.”
Moments after she gave birth, Karisa still had the strength to ask, “How much does the baby weigh?”, Then she died.
The woman’s husband said: “How can I explain to him that his mother died while giving birth to him? I always think of that. What can I say when he asks me, “Where’s mommy?”
In order for her son to live, Karisa chose to make the ultimate sacrifice. It is an absolutely dramatic and impressive gesture that only a real mother can do for her child.
