On one rainy day, Erin Hester was returning from work. As she drove on the usual road, she noticed something strange happening on her way. A soldier stopped and stood motionless by the car as the rain fell on him. Erin was very confused. After all, why would anyone stop on the road and sit in the rain? Curiosity prompted her to ask him what his reason was, but she didn’t get it because she realized immediately what was going on, after looking more closely in the area.
In the opposite direction, a funeral procession was approaching, and the honorable soldier stopped to show respect. Erin was deeply touched by the soldier’s gesture and she really wanted to share what happened on the internet and her post had a major impact. “I was so completely touched by this today. A funeral procession was passing by and this soldier got out of his jeep to stand at attention in the pouring rain. I always get frustrated when I see cars that don’t pull to the side and stop for a procession, but this gentleman went above and beyond. I feel pretty confident that there isn’t a military rule that soldiers have to do this. This made my heart happy to see the amount of respect that this gentleman showed a family that he doesn’t even know.”
