It is really enchanting to see how in a world full of blocks, nature makes its place among the cracks and thus hope is born. Lake Berryessa is certainly not a poor place in terms of beautiful views. Unlike other lakes, this one is an artificial one, created after the construction of the Monticello dam Putah Creek, back in 1957. The lake was not created for tourist purposes so h it was surrounded by a protective fence. It is also the largest lake in Napa County, California. But something else attracts tourists to this area, something located on the southeast side of the reservoir, even if it is fenced.
It is a hole that is somewhere in the middle of the lake with a diameter of 22 meters(72 feet). This hole, known as the “Glory Hole”, looks like something a science fiction movie, it resembles a portal to another world or as other people say, a gate to Tartar. This hole is not natural, but has a well-defined and well-thought-out purpose and was built by humans. It has a fall of 61 meters and its role is to direct the flow of excess water.
This lake has a lot of visitors every year because they are captivated by the way this huge hole looks, it seems a little unreal. It is very important to remember that bathing is forbidden in this lake because it is very dangerous.
