Elena and Yuriy Spengler are a married couple from Krasnodar, Russia. They already had two children of their own and had adopted another boy, so they had no plans to have another child. However, when Elena was only 42, she found out she was pregnant again.
Although their financial situation was not very good and Elena’s health was not perfect, the two decided to keep the child. The woman had 3 ultrasounds during the pregnancy and everything seemed perfect, even the whole pregnancy seemed to Elena very simple, she did not feel sick or depressed at all.
When she was in her 30th week of pregnancy, Elena suddenly went into labor, giving birth naturally but noticed that the doctors’ behavior was suspicious. They didn’t show her the baby right away, then a nurse said, “Are you ready to see THIS?”
When she showed her the baby, Elena fainted.
The girl had a rare genetic disease – Nager acrofacial dysostosis – she had neither lips nor chin. When Elena recovered, the doctors warned her that the little one might never be able to eat solid food, and even encouraged her to give up the “burden of having such a child.”.
Elena and Yuriy refused, they wanted to keep her. This problem only made their small family stronger. Unfortunately, people made disgusting comments about Darina, that’s how the little girl was baptized, and no kindergarten accepted a child “who scares everyone”.
The family moved to Moscow where they were helped by many charities, Darina underwent many surgeries and after a few more in the next two years, people hope that her face will improve.
Darina is an intelligent and active child. She loves to sing and to look in the mirror, or to be photographed. Although she will have to spend a lot of time on operating tables, over time her condition will improve.
We hope she has a bright future and overcomes all obstacles.
