It all started when Cecilia Cella and her father Pablo Paladino, from Uruguay, arrived at the hospital for a routine ultrasound when Cecilia was only 5 months pregnant. Ultrasound showed an abnormal mass on the baby’s heart, and doctors immediately identified it as a rare and usually fatal tumor.

The medical team of the Uruguayan hospital requested the help of a hospital specialized in intrauterine operations, and the parents were transported urgently to the hospital in America.
Dr. Jack Rychik, who performed the operation inside the mother’s womb on her unborn baby, said: “His heart at the time of the operation was the size of a hazelnut, while the tumor was three times larger than the baby’s heart. If I waited another day it would probably have been too late. ”
Immediately after the baby was born, he had to undergo another operation. Currently, the child named Juan is three months old and is healthy, happy, and since he returned to Uruguay he is a real local star. The family will forever be grateful to the team of doctors who saved their little one’s life.
Juan’s mother confesses: “It’s crazy, incredible. I look at him and I can’t believe what these people did here. It’s amazing!”.
