The doctors decided to perform the prenatal operation and while the operation was in progress, this picture was taken.

It is already 17 years since this image went around the world, being made during the operation of Julia Armas, to save the life of her 5-month-old unborn baby.

The fetus had been detected with “Spina bifida”, a disease that deforms the spine. The doctors decided to perform the prenatal operation and while the operation was in progress, this picture was taken.

It was declared the earliest human interaction in history. Four months after the operation, Samuel Armas was born on December 2, 1999.

Samuel is 17 years old and is in good health. Although he has to use a wheelchair, he can run, swim and play basketball with some help.

As a child he took life to heart and today he can smile just like other young people his age.

His story is worthy of applause.
