A little girl who was born pregnant in 2010 amazed the world at that time, but only now are scientists beginning to understand why something like this happened to her.
According to ABC News, the girl was born in Hong Kong, at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and had a disease called “fetus in the fetus”, which causes an undeveloped fetus to grow in the womb of another child, his twin. One study shows that this disease occurs in 1 in 500,000 births.
Doctors first noticed this after they said they noticed what they thought were two tumors in the baby who was only 3 weeks old, but the tumors turned out to be the fetuses of her twin brothers, each had already developed spine, hands, and ribs!
Dr. Yu Kai-man states: “It was almost impossible to detect during prenatal tests because the baby’s embryo was too small. Since it is impossible for the baby to conceive a baby in the mother’s womb, the fertilization of the twins was done by her parents, she simply went to the wrong place, reaching the little girl. ”
According to the international press, the girl was released from the hospital 8 days after the surgical removal of the fetuses. Dr. Yu states that this disease is classified by the International Health Organization as a form of cancer, although its causes remain unknown.
Yu adds that there should be better ultrasounds to detect this disease earlier, which could also help discover its causes.
