Huge worm found in a dirty swamp by tourists – looks like a science fiction creature
Nature always manages to surprise us, don’t you think? Whether it’s an unprecedented species of fish on the ocean floor or a plant with strange properties, there is always something new waiting to be discovered. A family visiting the Philippines discovered something amazing in a swamp. Something that made them think they were part of a plot in a horror movie. Make sure you reach the end of the article to play the video if you’re curious to see the horrible creature that resembles a monster.

It is a large worm that is wrapped in a protective shell, meant to protect it. It feeds on toxic gases released from rotten wood and is found in very dirty swamps. The shell in which the larva lives resembles an elephant’s horn and can reach quite large sizes. For example, the worm found by these people is almost 2 meters.

This is the first time scientists have been able to examine a specimen. Those who found the larva say that the worm was stuck in the ground like a carrot feeding on the gases at the bottom of the swamp. The bacterium that feeds on the precious gas that is later transformed into carbon is very rare, but in the area where this specimen was found, there were very, very many, this being the largest. Even if it looks like a monster from horror movies, you don’t have to worry. It is not carnivorous and cannot affect humans in any way.
It is impressive how this worm manages to remove toxic gases and use them to its advantage in order to survive. It’s a win-win, don’t you think?
