Couple travelling to Dominican Republic to relax but they will never walk barefoot on a beach – you can’t even imagine what happened

After months of working tirelessly, we all know that a vacation is simply the perfect antidote. Beach, sunbeds, a cocktail, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. You are probably thinking about the perfect location right now and maybe after reading this article you will have a look for plane tickets, just to check some prices, who knows. When we visit an exotic location, we must take more aspects into consideration apart of budget, accommodation, and the area where we think to stay during the vacation. One important aspect? Climate, culture, and why not checking on the internet for other people’s reviews regarding their experience there. We will present to you the story of a couple that had a horrible experience while visiting the Dominican Republic. We can say that they were at the wrong time in the wrong place, and if you like long walks on the beach, you must read this article till the end.

Ed Zytner and Katie Stephens dreamed to visit Punta Cana so finally, they made their dream come true and boarded the airplane in 2018. Everything was perfect, they disconnected from the crowd, jobs, stress, and just wanted to have time for themselves. One of the things they enjoyed the most? Long barefoot walks on the sunkissed sand. That wasn’t the best idea. Why? Well, the sand was not so safe as they thought and it hid some secrets. You will find out later why.

The vacation finished and they returned back to their homes. What was strange was that both of them had extremely itchy feet and as days were passing, it got worse and worse. Their legs started to swell and in some parts, bruises appeared. They went to the hospital but nobody knew what was wrong after many tests were performed. They tried all kinds of oils and natural creams but with no result: it was getting worse as days were passing. But Ed and Katie didn’t give up and continued to visit new clinics and different doctors for more medical checks.

After they visited many doctors, someone had an answer. A doctor remembered a similar case he met 10 years ago with a person who was on holiday in Thailand and felt the same symptoms. The problem was a parasite that enters the skin and is usually met areas that were infected because of feces. The name of the parasite they contacted was “Larva Migrans” and it’s a known issue in some exotic areas. The doctor was able ultimately to order a specific medication treatment from Canada and they will be fine if applied correctly. It will take some time but they were so lucky that they found someone who encountered this scenario in the past.

Bad luck, right? Make sure you share this story with your friends and family, maybe someone close wants to visit that area and love beach walks too!
