West Yorkshire doctor runs 35 kilometers to see if he can breathe with the mask on his face

Many people avoid wearing masks because they think that can put the health at risk by reducing the oxygen. As more and more cities are implementing the obligation to wear a mask in open and public spaces to reduce the risk of infection with COVID-19 as much as possible. Many people are concerned because they are reluctant when they hear about the mandatory mask rule. One of the reasons is, according to them, the mask reduces the oxygen levels, but according to research that’s not true.

As doctors know the real risk of this virus, they continuously urge people to wear the mask if they really care where is this world heading. It is true, there are so many conspiracy theories out there that people have come to fear tomorrow and that is why they seek to be even more careful, that strong sense of uncertainty about tomorrow. A rumor has been spread that wearing a mask prevents the required level of oxygen required to fill the lungs and that there is also a risk to intoxicate with CO2.

A resident doctor at Bradford Royal Infirmary was frustrated to hear that reason so often, so he decided to prove once and for all that this is just a myth by running for 35 kilometers with a mask on, on his way to work. Tom Lawton saw so many cases of Coronavirus and the real risk behind this terrible virus that he wanted to destroy this myth. During the test, the mask wasn’t removed, not even for a drink or a snack and the oxygen levels remained at 98%. He posted on Twitter and encouraged everyone to wear the mask in crowded places and not only.

It’s true that during summer the mask can be very uncomfortable, but it serves for a noble and higher purpose: the fight against the virus that threatens humanity. People need to open their eyes and think about the future, about their families and other people that have families. Next time you hear someone that refuses to respect the public health advice make sure you tell them about the test Tom Lawton made and will be enough to convince them. Wear masks and save lives!
